The core pipeline:

Several approaches and tools were experimented with during the workshop preparation (see below). However, here is the fairly finalized pipeline that was arrived at and used in the capture, production, and curation, of the aggregates.

  1. Capture specimens using a 3D scanning application available on mobile / tablet devices, in our case Polycam
  2. Collate the assets temporarily (for demonstration purposes during the workshop) using the ARkit (when using Apple devices)
  3. Have participants digitally hand-sign one of the specimens using Procreate
  4. Re-compile the specimens in Blender, where it is also animated
  5. Upload and annotate the specimens and aggregate onto Sketchfab (later used to embbed into Notion)
  6. Reuse the assets in existing videogames like SkaterXL or Fortnite Creative (using Unreal for Fortnite)
  7. Optional: The aggregates are then showcased using a composition made in Touchdesigner which combined in realtime, feeds from a tablet with an AR program running Metamask connected to Touchdesigner through the NDI Capture tool and recorded in-game footage.
